This article brings up some important questions about our health service and the reductionist approach that it takes. I think there aren't enough referrals to nutritionists that's for sure, bad nutrition can be the reason for so many physical and mental disorders. IMHO
doctors don't have the time to really get to know their patients, they are only human, if we want a touchy feely NHS we'll have to pay for it. That
said they could use technology to better effect. For example surgeries could have a forum where people could keep in touch with each other and maybe have a
poll for each patient to describe how they are feeling every day. Then when they make an appointment a chart could be printed out to be attached to their
notes.
However, I do like the idea of a reductionist approach. It sounds like making gravy. |

I agree. ( Not about the gravy! )
It's a bit of a 'between the devil and the deep blue sea' situation. Because so many people don't take responsibilty for their own health, more people want to see a doctor, therefore ther is less time for each person. If we all were able to use mre preventative measures, including diet, excerice ets. - the really simple things - then fewer would NEED to go to GPs and they would be able to spend more time with those that really need it. Well that's what I think anyway! xx |

Yes, but you can't force people to take care of themselves. The only thing you can do is penalise them for not doing so, and I'm not sure if I'm
comfortable with that.
Maybe a bit of encouragement would be the ideal solution. Free gym membership, buy one apple get one free - that sort of thing. |

I have heard of some moves to do just that. Howvere, these attmpts seemd to generate media contempt and cries of Nanny State and too many 'freebies'
I think it's an excellent idea, particularly as gyms can be quite expensive. Mind you, if it was down to me I'd ration processed food!! Two vouchers a week per person ( to begin with - reduced to one after two years?! ) Can you imagine!! xx |
